What A Magical Day!

First of all...let me tell you that I survived today. I was not sure if I was going to...but I did! Yay for me! So now let me tell you what happened yesterday, where I went and the cool purchase I made from Primark.

So we started off the day bright and early with breakfast at 6am. We then got on the coach and headed to Straford upon Avon. Do you know what it is famous for? Let me give you a guess...
You guessed it. It is where William Shakespeare was born! Yay!

It basically was a house, nothing too exciting. It is amazing that people tour where someone was born. I was joking that someday I hope that people will come tour the hospital where I was born, that they will take pictures of the actual room, have the hospital gown my mom was wearing and the gloves the doctor used. And in the gift shop they could sell all sorts of things...like my face on a cookie:
Or they could make me into a stuffed doll:
After that we went to the "Nash House". If it had any importance, I couldn't tell you. I think it was Shakespeare's next door neighbors house. (once again, another trivial site). We then went to the Holy Trinity Church...where Shakespeare is buried.

This is the river Avon. The church is where Shakespeare is buried. It cost about a pound fifty to go in and see his grave, and I am cheap (and wasn't too interested) and so I just tried to look through a peep hole in the back of the church to get a glimpse of it, but it didn't work.

We then went to ANNE HATHAWAY'S HOUSE!!!! The actress! Haha, gotcha. It is actually the wife of William Shakespeare.

Once again, it was a cute little cottege. But we were all excited to go to Oxford so we rushed through it and then jumped on the bus.

We got to Oxford and had less than an hour to see everything before we had to go to our "Secret Meeting". We ran around like crazy chickens trying to see everything. Our first stop was the gift shop so we could pick up some Oxford gear. I got a cute sweatshirt and t-shirt for a great deal. So Fun! Then as we were walking around we saw a cute Oxford boy riding his bike, so we stalked him and took a picture. Shhhh!
We were able to quickly see the library and a few other cool buildings before we went to "Christ Church".

Here we met a tour guide who was a friend of one of our Professors and he showed us around the college. It was neat to see the campus and buildings. We even saw people playing cricket and croquet! Some interesting things I learned is that this is where Lewis Carroll got his idea for Alice in Wonderland because the Dean's daughter's name was Alice and below is the door that Alice went through in the book. Cool huh?

Now here comes the magical part and the reason why got what we did from Primark. Christ Church in Oxford is where...the HARRY POTTER films were made!!!
Does this staircase look familiar??? It was uesd in the movie when the first years get off the Hogwarts express and are heading to the great hall to get sorted into their houses!
And as you can tell...this is what we bought. 1 pound Harry Potter glasses! A great purchase if I do say so myself.

Well friends, the magic does not end there. The tourguide insisted that we eat in the Great Hall and have tea (Hot Chocolate) and crumpets. No Joke. This is what it looked like.
(I had the hardest time picking what pictures to show and so I put a lot on. They are really fun, so just deal with it.)

Look familiar?

This is what we ate. The cake was so good, the sandwiches were interesting (not sure exactly what was inside) and the Hot Chocolate was good but really bitter...interesting.

This one is for you Carlie. Name this movie, "More like teeny-weeny sandwhiches".

I think this one is one of my personal favorites.

This is me under the "sorting hat"! I wonder which house I will be choosen for. BYU maybe?

It was sad to say goodbye to the Great Hall but it was so fun visiting. Afterwards we came back, ate dinner and then studied like crazy. I am still behind but will blog tomorrow about today.
Love you all! Goodnight!

  3. I've enjoyed reading about your escapades while in London. And yes, I can't decide who is like the other. Are you like Chuck or is she like you? So many identical mannerisms. The two of you together in one room would certainly take away the "über boringness" of any country. Needless to say, I am happy for you and all that you're learning there. I'm with Chuck on this one, I am jealous too and wish I could be there as well, especially Scotland.
Loves and hugs from Papa A.
