We actually started off the day with "tube training". We were sent on kind of a scavenger hunt to get ourselves aquainted with the tube. We hit most of the major sites and got to know the area. I can now find my way around the tube fairly easy and have yet to get lost...ok, maybe not. Me and Big Ben...again! (I swear someday I will find a good place and way to take a picture of me and Ben!)
This is the London Eye. Man, that is one HUGE ferris wheel! Still working up the courage to ride it!
This is Westminster Abbey. And next to it is St. Margarets Church. We just walked around outside but Friday we will be going in as a group and touring it. It should be great! I am really excited for it!
We toured around other places such as Trafalgar Square and Picadilly Circus (no, it is not a real circus with animals and clowns). More pictures of those places I am sure will come later.
We then came back to the center where we had dinner and then we met with one of the Bishops from the wards we will be attending. He filled us in on what the wards are like, the need for us and British customs. It is SO different from America. They said not to go up to people and introduce yourself, that is too forward. If they want to know you or meet you they will ask you. Also a way to start conversation here is talking about the weather (usually in America when you talk about the weather it is because the situation is awkward). He literally told us to say, "Its dark out today." Odd! But we were assigned to our wards and I am going to the Crystal Palace Ward with 5 others. Church starts at 10 and we have to leave the Center at 8:30 to catch a tube, to the bus which will take close to an hour and then we will have to walk from there! Wow, so different from home!
After that Kristen and I went to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens on a search to find the Peter Pan statue. He is hidden in the middle of the park and hard to find and so we got lost and it took a while but we were so excited to finally find him.(My main interest is because of the Mary Kate and Ashley movie called "Winning London" and there is a scene that takes place there, that we reenacted...of course!)
Here is Peter in all of his glory! (We were not exactly sure what the creepy statues at the bottom were, but we think some of the other characters from the story).
We ran into others on our way back to the Center and decided to go visit the "Tower of London Bridge" again.
This is a really blurry picture but while all of us girls were taking a group picture an Asian couple came up and asked to take pictures with us. They were hilarious...and drunk! She modeled while he took 100's of pictures ( I swear!) and then he wanted some with him in them too! Quite funny!
That about wraps up day two! I am behind on blogging so I might have to start combining days and pictures, but we will see!
Cheerio!
