Day One: We headed off early in the morning and got on board the coach for a LONG ride! I sat next to Kristen and what did we do most of the bus ride...SLEEP!
The hard thing was that the bus had NO air conditioning and so it was extremely hot and we were all sweating badly. Gross! Not to mention we were on the side where the sun was shining...
Our first stop was the Bronte Family House. It was really interesting to go to because as an English Class we just finished reading Wuthering Heights (which I am still trying to decide if I like or not).
It was really neat to walk through the house and see how the family lived and where they got their ideas for the books. Outside the house we were able to walk the "moors" (which is in the book and which is basically grass fields).
While Jessica and I were taking pictures on a brick wall this horse quickly came over and I freaked out at first and almost jumped off and then I thought, "Wait! This could be a great photo opportunity!"
We had a tour guide show us around. The town they lived in was SO cute. So I wonder, "Why did they write such dark, depressing books?"
We then got back on the hot and sweaty bus and drove a couple hours. During this time Kristen and I jammed out to good old "Barry Mannilow" and "Aaron Carter". Gotta love the oldies. We then finally arrived in the Lake District. It was B-E-A-utiful! We first stopped at Dove Cottege.
This is the place where William Wordsworth (the poet) lived. It was interesting to walk through his house but it was even better to explore the grounds and gardens.
We then finally headed to our hostel for the night, it was the Ambelside Youth Hostel. We even got to pick our roommates this time, which was fun!
It was at the perfect location. It was right on the water front of this huge lake (aka. the "Lake" District) and it was surrounded with beautiful green mountains (aka. hills).
For dinner that night we couldn't find anywhere to eat. We walked around forever and then just decided to go back to the hostel and eat at the restraunt there. It was actually pretty good.
We then went outside to watch the sun set on the lake, take some pictures and explore around outside. The weather was perfect and it made for a fun, relaxing evening.
DAY TWO:
The next day we got up early and then headed on the bus to a place where we could catch a ferry to take us across the lake!
It was a short ride but it took us to this pretty footpath that we walked along as we headed to Beatrix Potters House. The only problem is...we got lost. It took us forever to find it, we had to back-track, have people run ahead to find the trail...and it was 1,000 degrees outside.
As you can tell when I packed, I thought it would be colder weather. That days outfit consisted of a white shirt, a black cardigan and a scarf. Not hot weather, hiking material clothes. So I slowly took off my scarf and jacket, so you will see many combinations in my pictures.
Hill Top Farm is where Beatrix Potter lived (who wrote children's books such as Peter Rabbit). Her house was so cute and it was fun to see all of her books laid throughout the house and where she got her stories from. (If you haven't seen the movie Ms. Potter, I definitely reccomend it!)
We then left and had 15 minutes to grab lunch and so luckily we found this little cafe with a great deal on sandwiches, crisps (chips) and a drink for 3 pounds! Yay!
We were then told we were going to a suprise place (though we had an insider scoop, so I already knew where it was). We went to...THE PRESTON TEMPLE!
I was so glad we were able to go and walk the grounds. It was a beautiful temple. And while I was there, I even got proposed to...twice!
We then hopped back on the bus and headed to Liverpool. Here we stayed at an actual hotel and there were only 2 of us in a room, weird. It was just Kristen and I.
Before we were allowed to go do things on our own Professor Macfarlane talked to us a little about the pioneers and early saints who left from Liverpool and the church history there. We went to a monument put up by the church to remember them and all the others who migrated across.
We then had free time to do whatever we wanted. Basically everyone went to the Beatles Museum (because that is where they started from) but we decided to first hit up the Martime Museum.
We then decided we at least had to check out the Beatles store and so we went in and found some fun things while jamming out to Beatles music.
We then just decided to walk around the city and came upon these fun fountains that we played in for a little bit.
We then got some dinner at the most delicious place ever called "Banburrito". It was similar to Chipolte. Oh how I have missed Mexican Food!
We then went and found some fun Beatles sites that were around the town including a statue of "Elenor Rigby" (I guess there is a song about her...never heard it). But the statue was dedicated to, "All the lonely people out there".
We then also came across the pub where the Beatles were first heard and discovered and found this cool bench outside.
We then walked to the pier to watch the sun set, and we found a statue that we thought was Elvis, but it wasn't. Sad. But we took some funny pictures with him.
It was beautiful to watch the sun set on the water.
We then headed back to our hotel where we had a party because there was a) a TV (I didn't even remember what one looked like) and b) you could hook your ipod up to it and play music!
We may of had too much fun...
I then took a shower and once I was in I realized I had my watch on. I freaked out, took it off and threw it over the shower. I then heard a splash and watched something drop into the toilet. At first I thought it was my watch but then I realized it was Kristen's toothbrush holder. Ooops! Luckily her toothbrush was fine! DAY THREE:
So Kristen and I planned to get a wake up call the next morning because we were heading off early. Kristen woke me up in a panic and said, "Aubrie, is it 7!?!?" I checked and replied, "Yes". I then realized we had to be checked out, eaten breakfast and be on the bus in 30 mintues. We panicked, got ready quick and luckily got there on time.
Our first stop was WALES! It was so pretty. We first went to a castle in a place called Beaumaris. It was an older castle that isn't used anymore but it was fun to explore the grounds. It had an inner and outer castle wall.
We spelled BYU on the grass and had people above us take it, when I get the picture I will post it. It was pretty cool!
The next place we went was another castle and it was in Carenarfron. (I had to take pictures of the names so I would remember what they were).
It was a really cool castle though I think I am partial to the first one. This one had a lot of cool towers, secret passage ways and look outs.
We then grabbed a quick bite for lunch. I was SO thirsty and so we went to this place called the "pound stretcher" that had really cheap drinks. I found this large bottle of juice for only 75p (pense) and so I got it.
It was horrible! It tasted like a melted tootise pop! I looked on the back and it say to dillute it you should do 4x the amount of water to 1 of the juice portions!
Before we left Wales I wanted to make sure to get a picture of their language. (If you can even call it that!) I swear someone just randomly sat at the computer, banged on the keyboard and put random letters together to make a language.
We then made it back safely, got some dinner and started on our homework for this upcoming week! Yay!
Post. Done.

Aubs, you lead an exciting and fun-filled life. But what Hansen girl doesn't, right? You are so blessed!
ReplyDeleteWow Aubs! What a fun filled trip! We had hoped you would be able to make it to see the Temple, and you did! Did you know that your Great, Great, Great, Great Grandparents on Grandpa Hansen's side of the family were from Wales? Mary Morgan and John Davis Rees were baptized there. They joined the Dan Jones first Welsh emigrant company that sailed from Liverpool on February 26, 1849. They then crossed the plains when arriving in America and settled in Box Elder (Brigham City) where both Dad and I were born. How blessed we are for the faith, testimony and sacrifice of our early ancestors who gave so much and endured so much so that we could enjoy the fullness of the gospel today. I just think it is so neat that you visited the place where it all began for our family.
ReplyDeleteWe love you so much!
Dad, Mom, Carlie and Ethan
P.S. Bright and early in the morning, Dad takes off for AP camp and Carlie is taking off to Palmyra, NY for the week. Keep them in your prayers. XOXOXO
The last comment was from me Mom. I didn't realize Chuck was signed in. Opps! Love YA
ReplyDeleteOh wow Emily Bronte's house? Wuthering Heights does take some time to wrap your head around. What a trip though to read about something and then drive on over to see it!! Love the cute picture on the dock. Being close to the ocean or a large lake sure seems to make things seem more relaxing. I'm so glad you are having a fun time!
